Which barcode format should I use?
- Retail packaged goods: EAN-13 (international) or UPC-A (North America).
- Warehouse / internal labels: Code 128 is the modern default. Code 39 is the older alternative.
- Shipping cartons: ITF-14 for outer cases, SSCC-18 for serialized pallets.
- Small parts / electronics: Data Matrix packs more data into less space than any 1D code.
- ID cards, boarding passes: PDF417 is the stacked 2D standard.
- Transit tickets: Aztec is compact and tolerant of damage.
