A Spotify QR encodes the share-link of any track, playlist, album, artist, or podcast. Scanning opens the Spotify app (or web player) on that content.
To get the link inside Spotify: right-click the item (or tap … on mobile) → Share → Copy Link. Paste it into the URL field below — the link looks like https://open.spotify.com/track/<id>?si=<token>.
The code is generated by JavaScript running on your device. We don't host it, log it, or send it anywhere. Close the tab before downloading and nothing is left behind.
Free forever. No signup. No watermark. No expiry. The code you download today still works in ten years.
What you can encode
Tracks, albums, artists, playlists, podcasts, podcast episodes. Each has its own share link. Test the link in a private browser tab before printing — sometimes a region-locked track won't resolve outside its market.
Spotify also has a native 'Spotify Code' (the bar-and-dots image), but it requires the Spotify app's built-in scanner. A standard QR works in every camera app on every phone — more universal.
Common uses
Album packaging: print a QR on the vinyl insert or CD case linking to the album on Spotify. Listeners who don't want the physical copy still find the music.
Posters and merchandise: artists print a QR on flyers and t-shirts linking to their top track. Conversion to plays beats handing out a username.
Restaurant playlists: a small QR on the table card linking to the venue's curated playlist — patrons follow it for later listening, becoming a soft brand touchpoint.
The ?si= tracking token
Spotify share links include a ?si= parameter that lets Spotify (and you, in artist dashboards) see scan attribution. Leave it in for engagement data; strip it if you don't want the analytics.
The token does not personalize who's scanning — it only tags the source as 'shared via you'. There's no privacy issue for the scanner.
Frequently asked questions
- Will it open the app or the web?
- On a phone with Spotify installed: the app. Without Spotify installed: the mobile web player asks the user to log in or sign up. On a laptop: whichever app/web interface is registered.
- Can I encode a Spotify Premium-only track?
- Yes. The QR opens the track page. Whether the listener can play it without ads or restrictions depends on their Spotify account tier — not on the QR.
- Are Spotify Codes (the bar-style ones) different?
- Yes. Spotify Codes are proprietary to Spotify's own scanner. A QR like this one works in any camera app and links to the same content — usually a better choice for print since the audience already knows how to scan QRs.
